Photorecptor cells in the bovine retina

Cross fracture of bovine photoreceptor cells from a peripheral region of the retina. The ROS cells with typical incisions (max. 2 in case of bovine ROS) show several fracture planes due to stacked organisation of the ROS disks. At the lower right side the very top of cone cells (X) are visible. In general, no cone cells can be seen in this fracture plane. The cell free region show the location of a large cone cell in deeper layers of the retina.
